A Study of English Pronunciation of M.A. Linguistics Students under the Faculty of Humanities, Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University

The purposes of this study were 1) to investigate the English pronunciation of M.A. Linguistic students under the Faculty of Humanities, Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University,2) to explore the difficulties of English pronunciation of M.A. Linguistic students under the Faculty of Humanities, Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University. The study was a quantitative research. The questionnaires used to collect quantitative data from 30 M.A. Linguistics students who are studying at Faculty of Humanities, Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University and to analyze quantitative data statistics included Frequency, Percentage, Mean and Standard deviation used.

The result of this research revealed as follows:

After doing this research, entitled “A Study of English Pronunciation of M.A.
Linguistics Students under the Faculty of Humanities, Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University. The researcher found those points as shown below.

1. As a results of questionnaires from a study of M.A. Linguistics 1^st and 2^nd year students’ attitudes on the English Pronunciation, The researcher collected and analyzed data from questionnaire found that it is very difficult to understand the rule of pronunciation with the highest mean at 3.26, I feel bored and tired when pronunciation subject starts learning with mean at 2.80, pronunciation is created for native speakers only with mean at 2.76, I am not interested in learning English pronunciation with mean at 2.70, pronunciation is not useful for real life in speaking English with mean at 2.53, it is not important to learn pronunciation for speaking in
the least number of 1.96.

2. As a result of questionnaires on students’ methods of learning English pronunciation, the researcher found that I ask my foreign friend if I do not know some words that I cannot pronounce with the highest mean at 4.43, I like to watch English movies to improve my pronunciation with mean at 4.20, I am trying my best to learn pronunciation subject with mean at 4.06, I am always writing down a note when I get a new word with mean at 3.73, I further practice by myself after learning pronunciation with mean at 3.70, I always read English newspaper and books to improve pronunciation with mean 3.70, I try to look up dictionary when I do not know how to pronounce in the least number of 3.26.

3. As results of questionnaires on students’ difficulties of learning English pronunciation, the researcher found that when I am trying to practice pronunciation, someone mocks at me with highest mean at 3.06, I don’t know phonetic symbols to practice pronunciation with mean at 2.76, I have negative thought in English pronunciation with mean at 2.70, I do not have much time to learn the English pronunciation with mean at 2.63, I do not have devise to help me improve pronunciation with mean at 2.36, English pronunciation is not for me in the least number of 1.80.
