           The thesis entitled ‘An Analytical Study on Values of Gemstone in the Buddhist Art Works’ aimed to achieve three goals: 1) Investigating the references of gems in Theravada Buddhist doctrines, 2) Evaluating the worth of gemstones embodied in Buddhist art, and 3) Interpreting the underlying rationale for incorporating gems into Buddhist art. The research methodology employed is a documentary analysis.

         The research findings highlighted that the term "Ratna" in Theravada scriptures is indicative of something of immense value, akin to the Triple Gem. Nonetheless, the Vinaya forbids monks from possessing jewels. Additionally, the instances of ‘Ratana’ found in the scriptures are consistently metaphorical, symbolizing various principles or individuals.

          As for the worthiness of gemstones depicted in Buddhist art, the study posits that gems possess both symbolic and aesthetic value. They are commonly utilized as embellishments on religious artifacts like statuary, stupas, and temple decorations. The gemstones' value in Buddhist art fluctuates in accordance with the cultural customs and traditions of different regions. For instance, diamonds often epitomize wisdom and lucidity, whereas rubies tend to embody benevolence and authority. Incorporating these gemstones in artworks visually portrays these characteristics and imbues them with spiritual meaning.

           Through the in-depth analysis of the motives and veiled significances behind the incorporation of Ratanachat in Buddhist art, it becomes evident that the age-old tradition of gem collection attributes to the allure and symbolism of these artworks. The splendor, symbolism, rarity, and longevity of gemstones amplify the beauty and appeal of the artworks. These gemstones also metaphorically express various facets of Buddhism and demonstrate reverence towards Buddha's teachings. Their presence in Buddhist art instills a sense of tranquility, reverence, and wonder. They serve as a perpetual reminder of the significance of spiritual ascension and ethical living. Prime examples include diamonds symbolizing wisdom, lotuses signifying enlightenment, and emeralds representing compassion.
