บทคัดย่อภาษาไทย

               วิทยานิพนธ์ฉบับนี้ มีจุดมุ่งหมายเพื่อศึกษาถึงประวัติพัฒนาการพระพุทธศาสนาของล้านนาและอิทธิพลคำสอนเรื่องคุณธรรม รวมถึงการจำแนกลักษณะของคุณธรรมทางพระพุทธศาสนาที่ปรากฏในภาษิตล้านนา เฉพาะในด้านสุภาษิด

               ผู้วิจัยได้ศึกษาถึงประวัติพัฒนำาการของพระพุทธศาสนาในดินแดนล้านนาไทยและได้รวบรวมเนื้อหาสาระของสุภาษิตล้านนา ที่มาจากวรรณกรรมมุขปาฐะและวรรณกรรมลายลักษณ์ ซึ่งมีผู้ปริวรรตไว้แล้ว โดยศึกษาเอกสารหนังสือจำนวน 7 เล่ม และดัดเลือกเอาเฉพาะสุภาษิตที่มีเนื้อหาและข้อความไม่ซ้ำกัน นำมาจัดเรียงคำตามรูปแบบในพจนานุกรมฉบับราชบัณฑิตยสถาน 2525 และจำแนกลงในหลักแห่งการดำเนินชีวิตประพฤติปฏิบัติร่วมกันในสังคมล้านนาทั้งสิ้น 6 ประการ คือ เศรษฐกิจและการครองชีพ (Economy and Life), สังคมและความสัมพันธ์กับผู้อื่น (Society and Human Relation), การเมืองและการปกครอง(Fuitics and Administration), การศึกษา (Education), ความรักและการครองเรือน (Love and Family), ธรรมชาติและสิ่งแวดล้อม (Nature and Environment) โดยใช้สถานการณ์ปัจจุบันเป็นตัวกำหนด พร้อมทั้งได้น้อมนำเอาพุทธศาสนสุภาษิด จำนวนทั้งสิ้น 19 หมวด มาศึกษาเปรียบเทียบและวิเคราะห์ถึงอิทธิพลคำสอนทางพระพุทธศาสนา ตามที่มีเนื้อหาปรากฎสอดคล้องอยู่ในสุภาษิตล้านนา

               ผลการศึกษาวิเคราะห์เอกสารดังกล่าว พบว่า

               พระพุทธศาสนาได้มีอิทธิพลต่อวิถีชีวิตและความเป็นอยู่ของล้านนาชนทุกระดับชั้น ซึ่งชาวล้านนาผู้มีภูมิปัญญา ได้น้อมนำเอาคติธรรมคำสั่งสอนทางพระพุทธศาสนาและความเชื่อดั้งเติมเรื่องจิตวิญญาณที่ยังคงหลงเหลืออยู่ มาสอดแทรกผสมผสานกันโดยใช้ภาษาพื้นเมือง ผ่านสื่อวรรณกรรมทั้ง 2 ประเภท โดยเฉพาะอย่างยิ่งวรณกรรมประเภทมุขปาฐะ หรือสุภาษิตล้านนา พร้อมทั้งยกตัวอย่างที่คนรู้เห็นเข้าใจได้ง่าย ๆ ด้วยการแก้ไข และประยุกต์ถ้อยคำให้มีการสัมผัสสอดคล้องกัน

               ส่วนลักษณะของคุณธรรมทางพระพุทธศาสนานั้น มีความแตกต่างกันไปตามเนื้อหา สาระ และวัตถุประสงค์ของการนำเอาไปประยุกต์ใช้ เพื่อเป็นสื่อส่งเสริมกระตุ้นเดือนสติให้เกิดทักษะกระบวนการเรียนรู้ ทั้งทางโลกและทางธรรม พร้อมปรับเปลี่ยนพฤติกรรมให้ถูกต้องตามหลักคุณธรรม และกฎหมายที่สังคมพึงประสงค์

               พระพุทธศาสนาที่หยั่งรากลึกแห่งความศรัทธาลงบนแผ่นดินล้านนา ได้พิสูจน์ให้เห็นถึงเนื้อแท้แห่งสัจธรรมคำสั่งสอน ที่ยังคงยืนหยัดตอบปัญหาวิธีการดำเนินชีวิตของมวลมนุษย์ซึ่งสร้างความเจริญรุ่งเรืองทั้งในด้านของวัตถุและจิตใจแก่ชาวล้านนา พร้อมทั้งยังเป็นมรดกทางศิลปวัฒนธรรม ขนบธรรมประเพณีพื้นบ้านล้านนาที่ดีงาม มาตั้งแต่อดีตจนกระทั่งปัจจุบัน

บทคัดย่อภาษาอังกฤษ

             This research is designed to study the evolution of Buddhism in Lanna and its influences on moral system, including the characteristics of Buddhist teachings found in Lanna traditional sayings, especially the proverbs.

             The study is made of the evolution of Lanna Buddhism and the essence of the Lanna proverbs that have been transmitted through oral traditions as well as literary works, which have already been transiterated into modern Thai script. Among them, the study includes seven relevant texts, which have difference in their contents and meanings. The selected literary works are alphabetically arranged following the 1982 Royal Academy Dictionary. They are then categorized into six spheres of the Lanna lifestyles: Economy and Life, Society and Human Relation, Politics and Administration, Education, Love and Family, and Nature and Environment. In this connection, present

occurrences are used for determining the above-mentioned classification. In addition, 19 chapters of the Buddhist proverbs are included in order to compare and analyze the influences of Buddhist teachings as appeared in Lanna proverbs.

              Results of the study revealed that

              Buddhism exercised tremendous influence on the lifestyles of Lanna people of all classes. The Lanna learned people blended

together the Buddhist teachings and the ancient animistic beliefs and expressed them in northern dialect through two kinds of such literary works, especially oral traditions. In addition, easily understandable examples are given by means of alteration and manipulation of those literary terms in consonance with prose rules.

              As regards the characteristics of Buddhist virtues, they varied according to their essence and implementation purposes. They might be used to encourage learners to gain more skills in learning process, both secularly and religiously. The learners are also advised to behave themselves to moral standards and laws.

              Having been deep-rooted in Lanna land, the Buddhist teachings proved themselves to be always capable of solving all the problems encountered by people in their daily lives. Consequently, Lanna people had become prosperous materially and spiritually, having created Lanna indigenous cultural heritage since early times.
